Cruise Casino Tier Matching: What Actually Gets Granted
Last reviewed: October 2026
Three cruise lines have something resembling a tier match. Virgin Voyages will match a competitor’s casino offer and try to beat it. Princess offers a tier match, with enrolment automatic via the Medallion. Celebrity has a provision for a Blue Chip match, but across 2024 to 2026 we found no player report of one actually being granted.
Virgin Voyages: offer matching, not status matching
This is the strongest and most unusual version at sea, and it is worth being precise about the difference.
Most tier matching grants you an equivalent status. Virgin invites you to upload a competing cruise line’s casino offer, and they will try to beat it.
That is a different transaction. You are not asking to be called a Superstar because you are a Prime somewhere else. You are handing over a document that says another line will give you a specific cabin on a specific sailing, and asking Virgin to do better.
The practical implication: bring your best actual offer, not your highest tier card. If you hold a Club Royale instant certificate or a Blue Chip PDF offer, that document is the asset. Virgin’s own tiers run Showstopper 0, Star 5,000, Superstar 15,000, Idol 35,000 and Legend 75,000, and those thresholds are official, but the offer-matching route sidesteps the ladder entirely.
Virgin does not publish its earn rate, so you cannot easily calculate what a match is saving you in coin-in terms. Our Sea Roller Rewards explainer covers what is and is not published.
Princess: a tier match with no tiers to match
Princess offers a tier match, and enrolment in Players Advantage is automatic through the Medallion, so your play is tracked from the first spin without signing up.
The oddity is that Princess has no tier ladder of its own. Its FAQ states plainly that Prestige “is not a status.” So a Princess tier match cannot grant you a Princess tier, because there are none.
What it produces in practice is an offer. Bring documentation of status or offers elsewhere and see what Princess extends. Since Princess’s rewards are host-driven and discretionary anyway, this is less a formal match than an invitation to start the relationship higher up.
Celebrity: a provision on paper
Blue Chip Club has a provision for matching. What we could not find is evidence of it being granted.
We looked across player reports from 2024 through 2026 and found no first-hand account of a Celebrity Blue Chip tier match being approved. That is not proof it never happens. It is an absence of evidence, and on a site built around honest sourcing we report the absence rather than filling it with a guess.
Practically: it costs nothing to ask, and you should not plan a cruise around getting one.
The lines with no tier match at all
| Line | Tier match |
|---|---|
| Virgin Voyages | Yes, matches and tries to beat a competitor offer |
| Princess | Yes, offered; produces an offer, not a status |
| Celebrity | Provision exists; no player report of one granted 2024 to 2026 |
| Royal Caribbean | None found published |
| Carnival | None found published |
| Norwegian | None found published |
| Holland America | None found published |
| MSC | Publishes nothing about its program |
Absence from this list does not mean a host will never do something for you. It means the line does not publish a matching program, so anything you receive is discretionary.
What to ask for and how
Bring documents, not claims. A dated offer showing a specific cabin category on a specific sailing is far stronger than a screenshot of a tier card, because it tells the receiving line exactly what it is competing with.
Convert to dollars yourself. A Carnival point costs $2 of coin-in and a Royal Caribbean point costs $5, so “I have 20,000 points” means nothing without the line attached. “$100,000 of tracked coin-in last year” is unambiguous.
Ask before you book. A match is a tool to win your business, and it has the most leverage while your booking is still open.
Ask for the offer, not the tier. A tier is a label; a cabin on a sailing is value.

What to expect
Expect a modest result and be pleasantly surprised. A match typically buys you a starting position, not a windfall, and it does not change the game you are then playing.
Measured cruise slot RTP is 83% to 91%, against roughly 93% back statewide in Nevada in 2025. A tier match places you higher in a rebate scheme layered on top of that. It is worth asking for, and it is not an edge.
