Holland America Players Club: What's Actually Published About the Casino Program
Holland America tells you exactly how fast you earn and almost nothing about what you're earning toward. That gap, not the rate, is the real story here.

A correction, first
This page used to say Holland America's website "carries no program detail at all" and that the earn rate quoted online was an unsourceable guess. That was our mistake, not Holland America's silence. The rate is on the same casino page we were already citing as our source. Our first read of that page came back nearly empty, and we treated a failure of our own measurement as a fact about the cruise line. Corrected 3 August 2026.
The short version
Holland America publishes its earn rate, in its own words: "on slot machines, you'll earn one point for every $2 you play; video poker fans will collect one point for every $5 coin-in." Table play earns too, "based on the type of game, your average bet amount, and how long you play" — the same no-formula rating every line uses.
That rate is genuinely good. It is the joint-fastest slot earn at sea, matching Carnival and Princess and running 2.5× faster per dollar than Royal Caribbean or Celebrity.
And that is where Holland America stops. It publishes how fast points arrive and nothing about what they buy: no tier thresholds, no certificate chart, no published FreePlay rate. So this tool can tell you what the play costs and what you'll have earned, and honestly cannot tell you whether it was worth it.

What's still missing, and it's the important half
Knowing how fast points arrive is worthless without knowing what they buy, and that is where Holland America stops.
- No tier thresholds. The page names benefit groups — VIP, Tournaments, Ultimate Games, Prestige — but never says how many points reach any of them. Named tiers with unpublished thresholds are not a ladder, so we don't enter them as one.
- No certificate chart. Nothing on free-cruise or dollars-off thresholds. Compare Celebrity, which posts all twelve rungs as a monthly PDF.
- No FreePlay or casino-cash rate. Reported at roughly $10 per 1,000 slot points, not by Holland America.
- No expiry terms.
So the calculator above stops where Holland America stops. It prices your play and counts your points, because the rate is published, and it projects no tier, because there is no published threshold to project toward. A tier projection needs a ladder, and inventing one is exactly what this registry exists to avoid. The lines that publish both get the fuller tools: Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Celebrity and NCL.
The parent-company pattern, now confirmed
Earn rates cluster by parent company, and Holland America's rate settles it. All three Carnival Corporation lines — Carnival, Holland America and Princess — run 1 point per $2 on slots and 1 per $5 on video poker. Royal Caribbean Group's brands, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity, both run $5 and $15.
Two of the three Carnival lines print the rate; Princess doesn't, and its figure still rests on player reports rather than a published page. The cluster is a good reason to trust that number, not a substitute for Princess publishing it.
What to do on board
Get carded before your first spin — no line credits play retroactively. You already know the earn rate, so the questions worth asking at the desk are the ones Holland America doesn't answer in print: what a point is worth in casino cash, and how many it takes for a future-cruise offer. Then judge any offer against the cash price of the same cabin. A fast earn rate makes points arrive quickly, which is not the same as making them worth anything — the underlying math is identical whether or not the redemption side is published.
