Virgin Voyages Sea Roller Rewards: Tiers, Earn Rates and the Offer Match

Virgin publishes its tier ladder but not its earn rate — so half this page is confirmed and half is clearly labelled as not. Here's which is which.

Last reviewed: July 2026

The one-minute version

  • Five tiers — Showstopper, Star, Superstar, Idol, Legend — topping out at 75,000 points. Confirmed by Virgin.
  • The tier year runs 1 May – 30 April: twelve months to earn a tier, then twelve months sailing on it. Confirmed by Virgin.
  • Reported at 1 point per $5 of slot coin-in, 1 per $10 on video poker. Not confirmed — see below.
  • They'll match a competitor's casino offer. Upload what another line sent you and Virgin will try to beat it. No other line at sea advertises this.
  • Adults only, no kids, tips included. Not a casino feature, but it's why people pick Virgin, and it changes what a comped cabin is actually worth.

The earn rate is not confirmed

Virgin's casino page presents its benefits as a graphic rather than as text. We couldn't read an earn rate off it, and couldn't find one stated anywhere else on virginvoyages.com.

The 1-point-per-$5 figure circulating online is plausible — it's the industry-standard rate, it matches Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and NCL, and it's consistent with where Virgin set its tier thresholds. Plausible is not confirmed. Every number below inherits that uncertainty, which is why the calculator carries a warning of its own.

What each tier would cost, at the reported rate

TierPointsSlot coin-inExpected cost
Star 5,000 $25,000 $2,500
Superstar 15,000 $75,000 $7,500
Idol 35,000 $175,000 $17,500
Legend 75,000 $375,000 $37,500

Tier thresholds are Virgin's. The coin-in and cost columns are derived from the reported earn rate and a 10% assumed house edge, close to the paybacks we read off real cruise-ship slot meters. If the real rate differs, every figure in those two columns moves with it.

Work out your own tier

Your play → Sea Roller Rewards points → tier, with what it actually costs.

Virgin Voyages does not publish these earn rates. The rates below are widely reported and consistent with the tier thresholds Virgin Voyages does publish, but they aren't confirmed by the cruise line — so treat every number here as an estimate, not a promise.

Cruises in the tier year

Virgin Voyages's tier year runs May 1 – April 30.

Where does this number come from?

No cruise line publishes slot payback. We read the lifetime meters on real cruise-ship machines — one had returned 87.1%, two others 90.1% and a configured 86.9–90.9%. See the measured meters →

Rated by game type, average bet and time played — no formula published. Table play earns toward the same tiers, but with no published formula there's nothing honest to compute — so this covers machine play only.

The offer match is the actual selling point

Virgin invites you to send them a casino offer from another cruise line and they'll try to beat it. If you already hold status somewhere — a Club Royale certificate, an NCL offer — that existing play has value here without any Virgin play at all.

It's also the cheapest way into a program whose earn rate nobody outside Virgin can confirm: let a line that does publish its rates do the earning, then bring the offer over.

What's confirmed and what isn't

  • Confirmed: the five tier names and thresholds, the May–April tier year, the earn-then-sail structure, and the offer match.
  • Reported only: the slot and video poker earn rates.
  • Not published at all: any certificate ladder, the FreePlay conversion, and table game rating.
