EZ Baccarat Explained: No Commission, One Big Catch

Last reviewed: October 2026

EZ Baccarat solves the annoyance of the 5% banker commission with a rule swap: banker bets pay even money, but when the banker wins with a three-card total of 7, the banker bet pushes instead of winning. The redesigned banker bet is actually a hair better than the classic version. The side bets built on top of it are another story.

How the push rule replaces the commission

Classic baccarat charges 5% commission on banker wins because the banker hand wins more often than the player hand. EZ Baccarat keeps the same dealing rules but takes its cut a different way: the specific outcome “banker wins with a three-card 7” (which comes up about 2.25% of the time) becomes a push for banker bettors.

The math nets out slightly in your favor:

BetHouse edge
Classic banker (5% commission)1.06%
EZ Baccarat banker (push on three-card 7)about 1.02%
Player (either version)1.24%

So the headline version of EZ Baccarat is genuinely fine: faster payouts, no commission arithmetic, and a banker bet marginally cheaper than the original.

The Dragon 7 side bet

EZ Baccarat tables pair the push rule with a side bet on exactly that outcome: the Dragon 7 pays 40:1 if the banker wins with a three-card 7. It hits about 2.25% of the time, and published analyses put its house edge at roughly 7.6%.

That is over seven times the cost of the banker bet it sits next to. The bet exists because the push rule creates a moment players are already watching for, and the casino sells a ticket to it.

The Panda 8 side bet

Many tables add the Panda 8, which pays 25:1 when the player side wins with a three-card total of 8. It hits about 3.4% of the time and carries a house edge around 10%, even worse than the Dragon.

How to play EZ Baccarat well

The strategy is the same one-liner as classic baccarat, unchanged by the new packaging:

  1. Bet banker.
  2. Skip the tie bet.
  3. Skip the Dragon 7 and Panda 8.

Everything else at the table is theater. If you want to see how the push rule feels in practice, and how rarely the Dragon actually lands, deal a few hundred free hands and track the side bets you did not make.
