Casinos At Sea Explained

Last reviewed: October 2026

Casinos At Sea is Norwegian Cruise Line’s casino program. Slots earn one point per $5 of coin-in and video poker one per $10. It has five tiers from Jade to Elite, points expire on a rolling 18-month window rather than resetting annually, and one account spans Norwegian, Oceania and Regent Seven Seas with points transferable ship to ship.

Two of those features are structurally different from every other program we track, and they are the reasons to read this one carefully.

The earn rates in context

ProgramSlotsVideo poker
Carnival Players Club$2 per point$5 per point
Casinos At Sea (Norwegian)$5 per point$10 per point
Club Royale (Royal Caribbean)$5 per point$15 per point
Blue Chip Club (Celebrity)$5 per point$15 per point

Norwegian’s slot rate matches Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. Its video poker rate is better than theirs: $10 per point rather than $15, so video poker costs twice slot coin-in instead of three times. For a player who mainly plays video poker, that gap is the most consequential number on the page.

Carnival still earns fastest on slots. As always, comparing raw point totals across lines is meaningless without this conversion, which is the argument in points are not a common currency.

Rolling 18-month expiry, not an annual reset

Club Royale points reset with the cruise year each April 1. Celebrity’s Reward Points expire at the end of each individual sailing. Norwegian instead uses a rolling 18-month expiry: points age out 18 months after they are earned rather than being wiped on a calendar date.

The practical difference is that a rolling window has no cliff. There is no “everything zeroes on 1 April” deadline to push against, which removes one of the classic traps described in the cost of chasing casino status. Points earned across two sailings a year apart still stack.

It also means a slow accumulator can reach a tier over multiple cruises in a way that Celebrity’s sailing-end expiry makes impossible.

One program across three brands

Casinos At Sea covers Norwegian, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas, and points are transferable ship to ship within the group. That is a wider footprint than Club Royale, which spans Royal Caribbean, or Blue Chip Club, which spans Celebrity.

For a player who sails different brands within the group, this is real value: play does not fragment across separate accounts. Combined with the 18-month rolling window, Norwegian’s program is the most forgiving on accumulation of the four we track.

The five tiers

Norwegian publishes both the tier names and their point thresholds, and because the earn rate is published too, the coin-in behind each rung is straightforward arithmetic at $5 per point on slots:

TierPointsSlot coin-in to reach
Jade0 (entry card)none
Pearl4,000$20,000
Sapphire15,000$75,000
Ruby35,000$175,000
Elite100,000$500,000

Jade is the entry card and requires no points at all, so every enrolled player holds a tier from the moment they sign up. The jump from Jade to Pearl is the one most cruisers will actually contemplate: $20,000 of coin-in is a serious week of slot play but not an unthinkable one, especially on a sailing heavy with sea days. Everything above Sapphire belongs to a different category of player, and the full program comparison puts these rungs beside the other lines’ so you can see how they line up.

No certificate ladder

Norwegian does not publish a rung-by-rung certificate ladder the way Royal Caribbean does with its 13 instant-certificate codes or Celebrity does with its 12-rung monthly PDFs. Points redeem toward Future Cruise Credit instead, which is credit applied against a future booking rather than a specific comped cabin category.

Future Cruise Credit is more flexible than a fixed certificate, and it is also harder to price in advance. A certificate tells you what you get. Credit tells you how much you get off something you still have to choose.

What is unpublished

There is no published FreePlay conversion rate, and there is no published table-rating formula. Tables on every line, Norwegian included, are rated by game type, average bet and time played, with the multipliers internal.

A better video poker rate and a gentler expiry make Casinos At Sea easier to accumulate in. Neither changes the house edge on the play that produced the points.
