What law says

Washington DC gambling is governed by the DC Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) under D.C. Code § 3-1301 et seq. DC is unique: it is not a state and operates under Congressional oversight, but for gambling purposes the OLG functions like a state gaming commission. DC has a lottery, legal sports betting (via GambetDC, operated by the DC Lottery), and in 2022 introduced a licensed online casino gaming component under a lottery-run model — though that program has faced scrutiny.

The DC OLG has not issued guidance or enforcement actions specifically targeting dual-currency sweepstakes casino platforms. DC’s unusual jurisdictional status (federal territory, Congressional oversight, no state legislature) means the legal and regulatory landscape differs from every US state — but sweepstakes platforms currently treat DC as a standard jurisdiction and serve residents without restriction.

Recent developments

No DC legislation specifically targeting dual-currency sweepstakes casinos has been introduced as of June 2026. DC’s Council has focused on the licensed gaming market (sports betting exclusivity contract disputes, lottery revenue) rather than sweepstakes casino regulation.

DC borders Maryland — where MLGCA enforcement has been active — but no DC regulatory response to the Maryland situation has been reported.
